What "AI trading signals" actually means
An AI trading signal is a structured recommendation — direction, strike, expiration, and confidence — produced by a model that ingests live market data. On index ETFs like SPY and QQQ, where liquidity is deep and spreads are tight, signals are most useful for short-dated (0DTE and 1DTE) options where timing matters more than direction alone. The terminal reduces a noisy tape into three actionable states: BUY CALL, BUY PUT, or HOLD.
How confidence scores are calculated
Confidence is not a probability of profit — it is a measure of agreement across independent inputs. The terminal composes a score from price action, momentum, volatility regime, and relative position within recent range. When multiple inputs align in the same direction, confidence rises; when they diverge or the tape is choppy, confidence collapses and the signal defaults to HOLD.
A high-confidence CALL on QQQ, for example, typically requires momentum, trend, and volatility to all favor upside continuation at the same moment. That's a deliberately high bar — most of the trading day resolves to HOLD, which is the intended behavior.
RSI: reading momentum on SPY and QQQ
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) measures the velocity of recent price changes on a 0–100 scale. Classical thresholds put >70 as overbought and <30 as oversold, but on index ETFs those levels are strong trend readings, not automatic reversal cues. The terminal uses RSI as a directional filter: CALL signals require RSI to confirm upside momentum without being extended into blow-off territory, and PUT signals require downside momentum without a capitulation flush already in progress.
Bollinger Bands: volatility & mean reversion context
Bollinger Bands plot a moving average with an upper and lower band placed at a fixed number of standard deviations. On SPY and QQQ they answer two questions the model needs: how volatile is right now, and where is price relative to its recent distribution. A tape pinned to the upper band during a rising average is a continuation setup; a sharp poke through the lower band during expanding bands is a volatility event, not a clean reversal — and the terminal treats those very differently.
From signal to strike and expiration
A BUY CALL or BUY PUT alert on SPY or QQQ is only useful if the contract selection matches the setup. The terminal surfaces near-the-money strikes on same-day (0DTE) or next-day expirations because that's where the signal's edge lives — short-dated options price the exact window the AI is analyzing. Longer expirations dilute the signal's timing precision.
Why HOLD is a signal too
The most under-appreciated output of an AI options trading alert system is HOLD. Chop, low-confidence readings, and conflicting indicators all resolve to HOLD, and executing anyway is where most retail 0DTE accounts break. Treating HOLD as the default state — and CALL/PUT as the exceptions — is the discipline the terminal is built around.

AI trading signals do not remove risk — they concentrate it into higher-quality decision moments. Position sizing, defined stops, and a hard daily loss limit still matter.
